Another sad tale of sexual abuse and trauma is coming out of Hollywood. This time it’s from Alex Winter, co-star of the Bill and Ted franchise, who is stepping forward to tell his story.

The shifting tone in Hollywood has brought attention to the injustices suffered by women the world over. But a few men have stepped forward as well to reveal the atrocities they have suffered at the hands of those more powerful than them. Terry Crews has been a vocal male presence in the movement. Corey Feldman has also renewed his efforts to tell his story since the walls have begun tumbling in Hollywood. Like his The Lost Boys co-star, Winter says he was only a child when the events took place.

Per THR, Winter alleges sexual abuse committed against him as a child in the 1970s. Winter does not go into detail of the reported incident. He says he was afflicted with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder as a result of his trauma that took years for him to overcome. While the name of Winter’s abuser has so far been withheld, Winter revealed that the man in question died some time ago, as per The Telegraph.

Winter says he was unable to cope with his trauma and kept his alleged sexual assault a secret for many years. He never spoke about his experience in the media. As many victims who have recently come forward have revealed, Winter says he was inspired by the breaking of the Harvey Weinstein story to finally share his ordeal with the public. Winter said he previously felt afraid for his own safety if he had come forward with the story and admits he really believed he would “die with it within the circles of people that understood it.”

Winter went on to praise his time filming the various Bill & Ted movies. He claimed the franchise was instrumental in his healing process and that it was a therapeutic experience. “The world of Bill and Ted is a very sweet and fun place to run around in,” he said. Winter will be reprising his role of Bill Preston alongside co-star Keanu Reeves in the third film installment, Bill and Ted Face the Music. The film will feature middle-aged versions of Winter and Reeves’ characters and is promised to be a “funny” and “sweet” tribute to George Carlin, who played Bill and Ted’s mentor Rufus in the original film.
