Jack Black has challenged the Thor: Ragnarok crew to a ‘Battle of the Jams’ over the use of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” during the final battle in the latest Thor
film. Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok has been dominating the box office since its release and has been a hit among Marvel fans who have praised its tone, aesthetic, and soundtrack, among other aspects.
One of the top moments of the film is the final battle, with Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” blasting in the background – a detail that elevates the battle, making it unforgettable. The song was also featured in the trailers, and it’s all because it was part of the film from the very beginning, as Waititi used the track for his pitch meeting sizzle reel . While fans reacted positively to the use of Zeppelin’s song, there’s one person who is not ok with its use: Jack Black.
Through his official Instagram account, Jack Black called out Thor’s latest film for using “Immigrant Song” – a track that was also used in Richard Linklater’s School of Rock , starring Jack Black, in a scene where Black’s character is driving with his students and rocking to Zeppelin’s hit. Black explained that this was the “raddest part of the movie” and challenged Thor and company to a “Battle of the Jams”.
Taikia Waititi has already responded to the challenge on Twitter, throwing all the responsibility to Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, as Black “distinctly said Thor”. Hopefully Hemsworth will respond to the challenge, with Waititi also participating – after all, it was thanks to him that Zeppelin’s song made it into the film.
Celebrity challenges are always fun to watch, especially when the participants have a great sense of humor. Black has done his part of the challenge (with the bonus of currently working with Blanchett), and with Chris Hemsworth filming Avengers 4 at the moment – if he takes the challenge – let’s hope he can convince one or two fellow Avengers to help him with his rendition of “School of Ragnarok”.
