< How The Thor Franchise Wasted...
Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige is rooting for his friendly rivals over at DC Films, as he expresses his enthusiasm for Justice League and sings the praises of this summer’s Wonder Woman .
Feige has routinely been credited as the chief visionary behind the unprecedented success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which recently continued with Thor: Ragnarok and will bring all the Marvel superheroes together next year in
Avengers: Infinity War . Warner Bros., meanwhile has had mixed success getting the DC movie universe off the ground, with their first few films being met with harsh reviews, but strong box office results. Wonder Woman was the studio’s first clear win, and the studio is hoping the upcoming Justice League continues that trend.
Count Feige among those rooting for DC’s cinematic success. In a new interview with Crave , Feige says he doesn’t understand why people would root against DC, and voices his love of Wonder Woman and his high hopes for
Justice League .
The rivalry between fans of Marvel and DC has its roots in the comics fandom, going back decades, but it’s never really been reflected on the creative side, with both companies generally holding a high level of respect for each other. The rivalry between the fandoms has only been amplified as Marvel has enjoyed amazing success with their movies as DC has stumbled a bit, with social media swarming with fights between the factions.
Feige has the right idea though; there’s absolutely no reason for a Marvel fan to hope a DC movie fails, and vice versa. Feige and DC’s film head honcho Geoff Johns are not only friends, they have the same deep love and history with the world of superheroes, and are trying to deliver the kinds of films comic book fans have been dreaming about for years. DC and Marvel are obviously taking slightly different approaches to how they tell those stories, but their ultimate goals are essentially the same, and it’s nice that they can publicly root for each other.
